Besides yoga, you will find me in nature, on the mountains, in the pub or in bed by 9am.

About Katie Ahern

I was first introduced to yoga at 16, but it wasn’t until travelling in Nepal after college that I truly felt its power. A three-day retreat turned into three transformative weeks and ultimately set me on a completely new path.

With a degree in Criminal Justice, my plan was to pursue a master’s in Youth Justice and work in rehabilitation. Instead, I spent the next four years immersed in yoga and Buddhism across India and Thailand.

In 2014, I completed my 200hr Ashtanga training in Rishikesh with Tattva Yoga Shala and began teaching at NewLife Foundation in Thailand a mindful recovery centre rooted in Buddhist psychology. That year had a profound impact on how I live and teach.

Since then, my teaching has continued to evolve. I blend the traditional roots of yoga with a functional, science-informed approach to movement incorporating strength, mobility, vinyasa, and mindfulness. I returned to Ireland to complete a 300hr in Neuromuscular Yoga Therapy, and founded CorkLotus Yoga during that time.

I’ve gone on to study Yin Yoga, Chinese Meridian Theory and Mindfulness with Josh Summers, Functional Range Conditioning with Dr. Andreo Spina, and continue to train with my teacher and friend Cecily from Yoga Detour, whose work supports my love of both function and flow.

Motherhood has been another major teacher. I trained in pre- and postnatal yoga during my pregnancies, and I’m deeply passionate about menstrual awareness and postpartum care. In 2024, I travelled to Peru for advanced movement training with Movement Method, and I’m currently studying an advanced breathwork course that’s been life-changing.

At the centre of my practice and what I share in every class is the breath. It’s the anchor that connects us to presence, reveals our patterns, and opens the door to meaningful change. For me, that’s the true power of yoga
